weeks eleven + twelve: it all winds down.
And the story finally comes to an end! With three interviews left, I make my way through Brooklyn, NY, Washington, D.C., and Richmond, VA before I’m back home. You’ve stuck around this long—might as well follow through!
week nine: in the windy city.
It’s been a long trip so far, hasn’t it? After I leave Iowa City and the wonderful Prairie Lights, chill with me in Chicago and Ann Arbor for a week. Well, it’s not much chilling. We’ve got fascinating indie stores of all sizes and shapes this week and some heartwarming moments with friends. Also, a sneak peek at a bookstore acting as the lead plaintiff in a suit against Amazon. Oh, is this awesome, or what?
week eight: the big open skies.
Here’s a long one, folks. A LOT happened this week, as I made my way from Washington to Minnesota. Beauty surrounded me as I left the Pacific Northwest and ventured into Montana, the land under big skies. There were a few impromptu interviews in Seattle, and several important lessons were learned. Oh, and also, I met Wilbur! Say hi to him.
week seven: highs and lows.
This week was much shorter than the last one, and you’ll see why. But if the Pacific Northwest isn’t the most beautiful place, I don’t know what is! Follow me as I part ways with a friend and continue the journey solo, facing quite the tsunami in Oregon, and the biggest indie bookstore in the world!
week six: the golden coast.
Hop inside Lola for an action-packed bookstore extravaganza. This week, we reach the most interviews/bookstores visited in a single week yet. Drop down the windows, and ride with me through gorgeous San Diego, bustling Los Angeles, vibrant San Francisco, and everything that comes between. We just couldn’t get enough of the Golden Coast.
week five: a desert a day.
In the intense heat of the desert, we found our oasis in Las Vegas—and it wasn’t a mirage! Continue the journey from the glamorous ski town of Aspen, Colorado, to the rich and to Joshua Tree, California. YES, California! We’re creeping to the coast this week, through Sedona and Flagstaff and Grand Canyon and Zion and…think you can keep up?
weeks three + four: still going.
An impressive week taking this first-time documentarian (and company) from San Antonio, TX, through bits of New Mexico and into Colorado, where I fell in love with the beauty of the Rocky Mountains and a bookstore in Steamboat Springs I couldn’t hold on to for long enough.
week two: a whole lotta history.
This week was full of bookstores with historic and literary significance. Big week for Faulkner fans, indeed! Join me and Jennings as we spend a few days visiting bookstores in the Athens of the South, the inspiration for Yoknapatawpha, The Big Easy, and more!
week one: the journey begins.
And the journey begins! Hop along on this cross-country road trip as I shoot a documentary about the value of independent bookstores in the United States. This week I leave Raleigh for the Appalachian Mountains, seaside Charleston, the big city of Atlanta, and much more.
